Last of Us 2 Deep Dive and Gameplay

Naughty Dog VP Neil Druckmann took to the internet today to share details on the soon to be released Last of Us 2. The sequel takes place several years after the original, Ellie is 19 and living in a community of survivors in Jackson, Wyoming. After a “traumatic event” Ellie strikes out on her own to find vengeance. Much like the first, Last of Us 2 makes use of varied environments and seasons as Ellie makes her way across the country. The bulk of the game takes place in Seattle, which has become a battleground between two factions vying for land and resources. The Washington Liberation Front are well trained and well equipped after overthrowing the military. Their opposition, a group of religious zealots known as Scars, prefer stealth and silent weapons to take down their prey. Neither faction is friendly to our protagonist and more importantly they’re not the only ones Ellie has to worry about.

The infected return with several new variants. Runners, stalkers, and clickers return more deadly and aggressive than before but they will be joined by Shamblers. This new breed are larger, heavily armored and more dangerous than those that came before, they also release a large spore cloud which burns their victims if they get too close. Mr. Druckmann commented that there would be other, even more terrifying versions but those you’ll have to discover on your own next month. Ellie has more options at her disposal to fight and evade all the new threats she’ll face. New traversal options such as climbing, jumping, swinging via rope, horse riding and at times using boats to cover large distances.
